- My SMART Goal is: I will eat only 4 servings (serving = 3 ounces) of meat per week, for the next 10 weeks. I struggled a little this week for to meet my goal. I had about 5 servings (3 ounces) of meat this week instead of my projected 4.
- I think I may small successes during this week because for lunch most days this week (4 days) I brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to work instead of having a turkey sandwich. However, I did have some challenges. I had chicken twice this week for dinner, and also went out to eat for dinner at Texas Roadhouse and had a burger. I also had a turkey sandwhich for lunch this past weekend. I also did have a piece of pepporoni pizza at St. Mary's Hospital because I get free lunch there for volunteering and that was what they were serving. So I think my greatest challenges were on the weekends because I usually do not think much about what I am eating ont he weekends. I need to do a better job of dealing with the these challenges by being more aware of what I am eating even if it is the weekend.
- I felt guilty this weekend when I went out for a burger this weekend. I am a picky eater so eating non-meat products when I'm out to eat is difficult for me. I also felt kind of bad because I knew I was not meeting my goal. I felt these mostly after I was done eating them.
- This week I learned that I need to pay more attention to what I am putting into my mouth on the weekends. I also learned that since I am a picky eater I need to look up new recipes on the internet or in cook books that will help me to reach my goal.
- My plans for next week are to look up some new meat-free recipes and try them. I also plan on making home-made pizza this week without meat! I will continue to bring PB&J to work for lunch and hopefully try to incorporate some more choices into my day. I do not want to modify my SMART goal because I feel like with time this is something I can achieve, I just need to put a little more work into it.

Being aware of how you eat when you go out now can actually help you! So don't be too discouraged! What I mean is that since you know you are pickier when you must select from a menu you could adjust your meals during the week to have less meat there. This way if you do go out you haven't exceeded your limit for the week and can enjoy being out as well as enjoy the food you pick! Remember this is the first week, so you will have opportunities to change! :D
ReplyDeleteI would probably agree with you that weekends could be the hardest. It'd be really helpful to come up with recipes ahead of time, during the weekdays, and get all of the ingredients ready to prepare over the weekend!! There is a great selection of pizzas that don't contain meat. I'm a fan of spinach, mushroom and feta pizza!!!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the weekends are the worst. I went home this weekend, so that was ESPECIALLY hard for me. It is difficult to change how you eat yourself, but even harder to impact family members or friends. You still made changes, though, so don't let a slip up discourage you!
ReplyDeleteYes, weekends are the worst for any diet. It's like there's something in our brains telling us we can do whatever we want. Going out to eat is always a challenge, too. I know that I always splurge on the best looking item. Next time you go grocery shopping look into boca burgers or meat substitutes. They have a lot of protein and a lot of the time you can't even tell the difference between regular meat. I give you props for looking up recipes, though, cooking new meals is a new challenge in itself!
ReplyDeleteDiet don't exist on the weekends remember?? If only that were true! I also include meat in my weekly diet probably a little more than recommended. It is hard to change something you've been used to for most of your life. Also, being picky can make things difficult especially when going out to restaurants. I'm not a huge fan of veggie burgers/pizzas so a good alternative for me when we go out is pastas, like spaghetti or three cheese macaroni. Don't let the first week discourage you from progressing with your goal!
ReplyDeleteCutting back on meat in general is hard but I think your self reflections are good. You are aware of the amount that you have eaten and the efforts to achieve your SMART goal. Being a picky eater can be difficult too. What kinds of food are you into? Maybe I can share some recipes with you too that don't involve meat.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion it is extremely difficult to be conscience of what you're eating while you go out because this is your free time and you are supposed to be having fun. It sounds like you are doing pretty good by bringing pb&j for lunch. Good luck with next week.
