The cosmetic item I chose to search the database for was Burts Bee's lip balm (in the tube). I came to find the safety of the product to be pretty low risk. It scored a hazard score of 2 out of 10, which is pretty good. The ingredient in the lip balm that had the highest risk (4) was lanolin which can be linked to allergies and immunotoxicity. This makes me feel very good about this lip balm because it is rather safe for myself and for the environment. I figured that it would be because it said "all natural" on the package, but sometimes you never know what that can really mean. I will continue to use this product because I know that I am no doing little harm to the environment and my body by using it.
This website is really helpful and I think it is a great tool to have. The only way people will stop using harmful products is if they know and understand why they are harmful. This is a great way of finding out and making our world a better place.

It's so true, you never really know if something is "all natural" or not. It's nice to have a place to check these things out.
ReplyDeleteMy product got six out of ten so I decided not to use it anymore. I agree with you, this website is really helpful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great product to look into! Whenever I think of cosmetics I tend to think of make-up, though lip balm is definitely a good item to learn more about. I use lip balm all the time so this is something I will look into as well!
ReplyDeleteI use lip balm or chapstick every day. I either use Chapstick brand or Burt's Bees. Now that I know how much better Burt's Bees is, I think I will just stick to that!
ReplyDeleteI also use lip balm a lot, however I tend to use the carmex brand more so it will be something I will be checking into.
ReplyDeleteI use chap stick a lot too and it I own some things made by Burt's Bees. It is good to know that this product is not very bad for you.
