What I've Learned
During these past few weeks we have watched a few videos with some different topics. We saw "The Future of Food" that talked about genetically modified foods and chemcials and pesticides that are being used on crops in order to sell them easier. We also saw "Fresh" which talked about the different ways farmers are trying to grow food naturally without chemicals or pesticides. We also saw the movie "Green" which talked about different ways we are living is affecting our environment is hurting many people that are unable to move away from these areas. We also discussed Junking in class in order to start a project in the future to make something new from "junk".
Impact on Behaviors and Beliefs
I think these things have greatly impacted the way I view the environmental world. After seeing "Fresh" I have started buying organic eggs instead of just regular eggs. It was very hard for me to see the things these animals were going through in order for me to have "cheap" eggs. I understand that these things are happening and I cannot just ignore them like they are. We all need to start taking action. I also found myself feeling very sorry for those who have to live in locations where factories just came and settled in. They are experiencing health problems they had not before and they do not have the money to move. This makes me re-think the things I am buying and the choice you are making with you really even knowing it. I think this is something that really needs to be shared more so more people understand this, because I don't think people really know what is going on. I also learned that junking can be a fun thing. After looking into some things that have been made out of others junk I really want to start doing this! I'm excited for our project and make something of my own!
The eggs were a big impact on me too. I'm making better choices and buying my eggs from whole foods. It sucks that it's triple the price but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to take.
ReplyDeleteThese past few weeks has also made me rethink of the purchases that I make. I try to buy more organic products and also have completely sworn off ever buying bottled water again.
ReplyDeleteYes, I feel like I've learned so much on our environment too! I agree, I am more aware of the things that I buy at the grocery store now too. I have questioned my siblings what foods we eat are not processed and they are starting to realize that a lot of what we are processed and is not healthy.
ReplyDeleteI agree, we don't realize the harsh things animals and other people have to go through so that we can have cheap products. It definitely makes me take a better look at my lifestyle and think of ways to change it for the better.
ReplyDeleteI actually switched over to free-range eggs as well! I'm trying my best to start buying organic products little by little, but there are still some foods that I cannot buy right now due to the expensive costs. I think its absurd that we have to pay for to ensure that the animals were treated humanely and not injected with growth hormones!
ReplyDeleteAfter learning about junking I'm also interested in doing some projects. It's cool how other peoples junk can be your treasures.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elly- it isn't right that we should have to pay more to make sure animals are treated humanely or for not-genetically modified foods! I have also started buying organic little by little. I am glad that we have this class so we can help change people's views of these important issues also!
