Eco-Chic Lifestyle Change Week 1: My SMART Goal

  1. I will eat only 4 servings (serving = 3 ounces) of meat per week, for the next 10 weeks.
  2. This lifestyle is eco-chic because raising livestock generates mass amounts of green-house gases, which contribute largely to global warming. Bringing up animals to sell for food creates large amounts of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, which is very bad for our environment. Also, water consumption could be reduced because mass amounts of water usage goes into raising animals.
  3. I chose to eat less meat per week because right now I do consume a lot of animal products. I usually eat a turkey sandwhich everyday for lunch. I also eat a lot of chicken and beef when I am home and cooking and most of the time when I go out to eat I usually get a burger. Changing my behavior is important to me because I want to have less of an impact on the environment. If I can start to change these things slowly, I know it should not be too difficult down the road.
  4. Tonight for dinner I plan to make pasta with only spaghetti sauce and no meat. I love pasta so these are some of the things I can start to eat more and reduce my meat in take.

  2. I also eat a lot of meat products and when I go out to eat its usually a burger, steak or chicken that I order. This seems to be a great goal for you, good luck!

  3. Sounds like you're just like me, and usually incorporate meat into pretty much every meal. This sounds a little difficult (from my stance) but I think if you really put your mind to it, you'll succeed indefinitely! You might even notice changes in your vegetable and fruit consumption, and realize you don't need meat anymore!! Can't wait to see your progress

  4. I wish you the best of luck! This is something I should look into doing myself, though I'm just not quite ready yet. So, I'm excited to hear how everything works for you! Just to help you out, since you are cutting back on beef, one way to help maintain adequate protein levels would be from consuming almonds and almond butter.

  5. Meat is something I eat for a lot of meals, so I was too nervous about starting to cut it out of my diet. I plan on eating more vegetables and hoping that it affects how much meat I consume. I am interested to see how it goes for you! Good luck :)

  6. Wow! This is going to be a challenge for you but it seems like you are on a good start. You know what would be even better if you made your own pasta. That way, you could make more and eat it for lunch and dinner.
