Share & Voice: UMD Energy Event

Today (September 28th 2010) from 9:00am - 5:00pm UMD will be holding its annual Energy Event. It is located in the UMD Stores Express which is in the lower level of Kirby Plaza at UMD. For this event CFL light bulbs, desk lamps, table lamps, floor lamps, and other types of lights will be reduced in price to be sold for students, staff, and visitors to purchase. Minnesota Power helps to fund this event by helping reduce the prices in order to help save energy and money in the long run. Minnesota Power will also make a donation to the U-Pass Program for every product that is purchased today.

The reason I picked this event to blog about is because I think energy saving is something everyone can take a few tips in. I almost always try to turn off the lights when I'm leaving a room or turn my computer off at night in order to save energy, but there are even more ways we can make an impact. Just by buying environmentally friendly light bulbs we can save much energy that we are wasting everyday with the "old" light bulbs. If everyone pitched in to change all of their light bulbs to the CFL light bulbs just think of how much energy we would be saving and how it would greatly impact the environment in which we life!

  1. Dani,
I have always wondered about this event. I always walk by the store and see the energy saving items, but I have never really researched about what it actually is. I always try to turn lights off when i'm not in the room and I always shut my computer off. I try to take shorter showers as well to save energy.

  2. Awesome! What a great incentive to get people to begin using more energy-efficient products! It seems so often people mention how the cost of living green and healthy gets to be so expensive, so it's nice to see that initiative is being taken, not solely for company profit, but for the benefit of the environment. Too bad I missed it!

  3. This is an awesome event that UMD has. It's such a great way to get people to increase their energy savings and be more eco-friendly. Students walk by the window and see all this neat stuff and stop in to look and possibly buy.
